O.T.W. Waverly Boogie

Over the weekend we loaded the truck down with bag chairs, coolers, and folks and headed to Waverly, Alabama for the 12th Annual Waverly Boogie.

In years past they've had bands which included the Civil Wars and even the Alabama Shakes. So we knew the music would be good!

This year, Centro-matic was the headlining band  and was accompanied by bands Hurray for the Riff Raff, the Pine Hill Haints, Soul Coalition of East Alabama, the Lazybirds, Glossary, and Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires.

Hurray for the Riff Raff

All the music was great.

There were artsy vendors from all around offering hand made crafts including: jewelry, artwork, pottery, etc...

I took a little extra cash and let's just say I spent it all. I love nothing more than something original for myself or our home.

Everyone had an awesome time. We had a few brews while sitting outside listening to good music, surrounded by great people.

Lacey and I had a tiny photo shoot in this field of flowers.

The girls! (bess, ali, lacey, deidra, me)

Towards the end of the day I talked Lacey in to doing some "hooping" with me down front. It was great. I was so excited to be able to bust out my Lasso Trick I learned a few months back. I think maybe a couple of people were impressed.

I think I was being an actress here. Like, obviously I shut my eyes to really show how I was feeling the music.

Lacey isn't acting. She really does feel the music.

Jenn is SO good.

Hoopers come in all ages.

It was pretty much an awesome Saturday.

50 Shade of Grey

Last month I wrapped up the ever controversial  Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy.

I liked the books. I wasn't scared. I mean, yeah, I had to Google a few words just to understand exactly what was being discussed. I won't say what word or what it meant. It was a little too X-rated for my innocent blog.

But the books were entertaining and that's what I love in a good book. To be entertained.

This week my pal, Lacey, came over for a nice home cooked dinner (provided by yours truly). After dinner we poured us a bottle glass of  wine and settled in on the couch for lots of very meaningful and deep girl talk.

The topic of discussion was, who we would cast as the main characters in Fifty Shades of Grey.

When looking for photos for this post I came across this article by Huffington Post (click here), which theoretically casts the all the characters in the book. For the most part I agree with the choices... but not with the main man.

In my mind I picture billionaire, sex fend, tattered soul, Christian Grey, being played by either Matt Bomer (of White Collar) or Paul Wesley (of Vampire Diaries).

What do you think? In my mind Christian Grey is well put together, a bit rough around the edges, (for some reason I picture him being around 5'9") and quite handsome.

As far as Anastasia Steele, the innocent, virginal, recent college grad I can't quite decide. Lacey said Kristen Stewart but I don't know about that. The Huffington Post article thought Elizabeth Olsen.

Have you read the books? Who would you cast?

If you haven't read them. Go for it. Don't be scared. It's starts out crazy, but by the end of book three it all makes sense.

Who wore it best?

I occasionally watch the TLC show, Say Yes to the Dress.

I loved trying on wedding dresses and finding the perfect one. It was such a fun day spent with my mom, grandma, and best friend. So maybe that's why I watch the show from time to time. The nostalgia, man.

It's also fun to see how other brides go about finding the perfect dress.

Well, one night this week I went to the gym later than usual. I scanned the channels in an attempt to find a show to get me through the "rigorous" cardio portion of my workout. I settled on the Bridesmaid Edition of SayYes to the Dress.

Let me just preface this by saying, if someone invites you to be a part of their big day you smile and put on ANY dress that bride chooses. period. It's HER day.

Some of these girls carry on, and make it about them to the point I wanted to punch them in the face.

So I'm watching, and sweating and thinking "these girls are wild" and sweating, and taking a sip of water.....

Then it happens! I see it. My bridesmaid dress. The dress my mom, Lacey, and Deidra helped pick out.

Which brings me to the the question:

 WHO WORE IT BEST?

MY WEDDING PARTY?

OR

THIS RANDOM GIRL ON TLC'S SHOW YES TO THE DRESS BRIDESMAID EDITION?

She did state that it made her feel sexy (even though she didn't love the idea of wearing a dress).
Oh goodness.

Recipes- TO TRY or NOT TO TRY

Pintrest inspired me to try a couple of new recipes over the last couple of weeks.

One was great! One got poured out!

Let me enlighten you...

Recipe #1 was from the blog EAT YOURSELF SKINNY (I like the way that sounds by the way).

It was Sweet Broccoli Salad. I love broccoli salad and had really never made it. This ended up being super easy and made for a good meal on its own for lunch or as a side with dinner.

Verdict (obviously) is GO FORTH AND MAKE THIS! Yum.

Recipe #2 was A Lightened Up Version of Ranch Dressing.

In theory sounded like an awesome idea. In reality it made me sad. Now, I made it with the intent of having a dip for my baby carrots. Not so good there. Way too tangy for my liking.

Verdict is IT ONLY HAS THREE INGREDIENTS SO IT'S PRETTY AFFORDABLE TO MAKE. GO AHEAD, TRY IT. It might tickle your fancy, just not mine.

O.T.W. LAKE TIME BABY

Over the past weekend (which I realize I'm late with this) we hit the lake for the first (of one would hope to lots of) sunning and boat ride of 2012!

I was so excited when new-ish to town, Emily, invited several girls to she and her husband's lake home for a day of fun in the sun! She is so sweet and was the ever gracious hostess to our random nonsense.

What a great day we had!

Lacey and Copper bonded on the boat ride. LOOK AT THOSE EARS. How can you not love him?

Captain Emily and Lacey (we had two Lacey's on the boat)

Kate and Lindsay

ITS A RACE

So sporty/outdoorsy. Yeah right!

This sweet guy got scared and took off running at one point. I honestly had no idea a basset hound had it them to haul it like Ole Copper did. I had to really run it out to catch him!

We wrapped up our lake day with dinner and drinks at Sinclairs!

O.T.W. Easter at the Farm

My mom's side of the family celebrated Easter at our family farm.

It's so fun to have kids to hide Easter eggs for. We had a beautiful weekend to celebrate Easter!

Cooper and Kylee on the HUNT!

Heath got in on the action too.

Kylee found one!

 Cooper too!

My beautiful grandma, Nelda holding Harley.

We loaded up in the side-by-side to ride around the farm! Wouldn't you know we saw THE EASTER BUNNY!! He was hopping along the trail we were riding. The kids LOVED it!

My parents bought some baby chicks for the kids to play with. They went home with Cooper to live at their farm. He named them William, Brennan,  Cotton Tail, and Lily. How funny is that? William, the Chicky.

Kylee did NOT like their feet touching her. Look at that face!

Oh look!! Ryan.

Heath loved playing on the tractor.

And I will part with this snap shot. Cooper not paying attention, Kylee being sweet and innocent, and Heath being such a little stinker! Cracks me up!

Hope everyone had a Happy, Happy Easter!
