Pigskin Picks

In mine and Ryan's marriage I would say he's the sports connoisseur, obviously. I've said it a thousand times... sports, especially football, rank way up there with Ryan.

Now, don't get me wrong, Auburn football is bred deep in my heart, but that's where it ends for me. I don't care about what the spread is, or who needs to be benched in this week's fantasy. I can't tell you who how many yards in whatever game, but what I can tell you is I'm obviously subconsciously picking up on all the football talk Ryan is laying down.

Case in point:

Each week our local small town paper does a little competition called Pigskin Picks. All anyone has to do to enter is chose who they think will win each game (ten games are listed each week) and then answer the tie breaker question, and fax it in.

Normally, I go through and chose who I think will win, but just about every week I have to ask Ryan about the tie breaker. The tie breaker is usually total yards, rushing yards, passing yards and so forth in regards to Auburn or Alabama.

Pretty simple concept.

Well, last Friday afternoon I got ready to make my picks and send them in when I realized that Ryan wouldn't be able to help me with the tie breaker... so I had to wing it all on my own. I went all in and rolled with what I felt in my heart to be true.

When I got home last Friday afternoon I told Ryan I made the picks/tie breaker on my own and asked him what he thought.

He looked over the picks and in an attempt not to make me feel like an idiot told me that I did OK, but my total yards for South Carolina was probably a little low.

The wind went right out of my sails. I tossed my picks aside and didn't think about them again until...

... my phone rang on TUESDAY and the lady on the other end simply asked, Hi, Mrs. Sanford? Where do I need to send your check?

WHAT? A CHECK? FOR WHAT? WHY?

She then stated she was calling from The Outlook and I had won the Pigskin Picks contest for last week.

This probably makes the contest make a little more sense.  This is today's paper. I am "this week's winner" because I won for the games that were played last weekend.

Oh is that too small? Here's a better look:

WHOOO HOOO! All on my own I dominated a FOOTBALL CONTEST!  I was more excited about winning it on my own than the little ole $25 I won. Bragging rights, man. Bragging rights.

I could NOT wait to get Ryan on the phone and tell him the news. I didn't want to rub it in, but I certainly did! The newspaper clipping is potentially on our fridge at this time.

ATTEMPT AT FOOTBALL TALK/TOTAL BS: I think I knew South Carolina would be a little on the low side in total yards. I felt like Lattimore would have a tough game against Auburn. And then there's Garcia who got so embarrased in the SEC Championship against AU last year... I knew he hadn't totally bounced back. Both of those reasons were factored in when I put down the ridiculously low 115 as the total yards for South Carolina against Auburn. HOLLA!

Or maybe I just wrote some crazy number down... whatever it was I dominated for the entire small little town to see.

Maybe Ryan needs to start asking me a thing or two about football! Ryan, just call me or ask me when we wake up in the moring (whatever works for you) if you need my help making any picks.

And my hands go up!!!!!

All I Do Is WIN, WIN, WIN...

Outside of being an Auburn Tiger and winning every single game last season... I have also been pretty prone to personally winning other things.

Albeit random stuff but winning all the same...

This one time when I was living with Deidra in Birmingham I got pretty down on my luck :: read I spent all my money eating out, partying, and buying Forever21 clothes, so I was in the hole financially and needed help. I called home and my mom politely told me I needed to make better financial decisions:: read: she wasn't hitting my with hundred spot to hold me over. In such a desperate time I did what any girl would do. No, I didn't take on another job at night!! I decided that I would listen to the radio all day long and try to win some money in a promotional type contest they had going on. You had to be the 9th caller in the 3:00 hour when you heard a certain song. Well, I waited all day for the 3 o'clock hour and then dang it if I wasn't on the phone doing real work when THE song was played. As soon as I could I called in... and a man picked up and said "WZZK YOU ARE CALLER NUMBER 9!!"" And just like that I won $104.70. If my last four digits had matched up with something it would have been $100,000 but alas they did not match, but a WIN is a WIN!

Skip a head a year or so...  You may recall back in 2008 when I won a pair of Current Elliot Jeans, valued at roughly $246.00. They were boyfriend and too big once they arrived via FedEx but they were expensive jeans. I might one day gain some weight and need a bigger pair of name brand jeans. I'll be prepared.

Then around Christmas of last year I found out I had won a year supply of hot pockets! WINNING! I'm telling you...

Then yesterday arrived.  It was a just a normal day... but in my world there is no such thing as normal. I have to be random in some way. So I went in to work:: read: boring day at the office, hit the gym:: read: making up for all the food I ate over the weekend, and then drove home while listening to the radio:: read: WON VIP TICKETS TO SEE RONNIE DUNN (of the retired duo brooks and dunn).

Not really even a fan... but here's hoping he sings My Maria! But I will probably have to settle for We all bleed Red

I was just driving along, phone in hand, radio up when the DJ said caller number 7 will win VIP tickets for a concert in August... so I dialed in. And lo and behold... I hear "YOU'RE CALLER NUMBER 7. STATE YOUR NAME!!!" I was all, " HEY!! I WON?? YAY!! THIS IS JESSICA SANFORD!"

This is where it gets random. I didn't really know the details of the concert I just assumed it would be in Birmingham and if Ryan didn't want to go then surly Deidra would and we could stay at her apartment or with friends.. and I heard VIP so I assumed that would mean celebrity status... potentially meet Ronnie Dunn and the opening acts. At the end of the day it would make for a fun Saturday night... whatevs.
Well, let me just say... I have indeed won VIP Tickets to see Ronnie Dunn (which I'm unsure if he is allowed to sing Brooks and Dunn songs which would be sad) in Atmore, Alabama at the Wind Creek Casino (read:: Creek Indian Reservation).

Oh  my goodness, I am super random. But this is what I have learned--- in life YOU HAVE GOT TO PLAY TO WIN. And here's the thing, I play it all.... hot pockets- yes, please!! Name Brand Denim- I will take it!! A T-shirt from a local drugstore in town- won it last week! And now, Ronnie Dunn live in person in the middle of nowhere surrounded by Indians- I'm booking my motha freakin' room!!

Here's hoping each thing I win gets better and better... because you better believe my ass plays the lottery every. single. time. I can!! I won't lose hope until I'm sitting on a cool mil one day!

AND MY HANDS GO UP... and Day STAY DER!!

I am SO RANDOM!

It is known that I am random among my friends. Well, not so much that I'm random, more so that random things happen to me and I attract random people.

For instance, if we are all at a bar sipping drinks and dancing the most random person in that bar will inevitably approach me or single me out to have the most random conversation.

In today's random event... I have won something!

When I called, Lacey to tell her she said, "You better not tell me you won an iPad." Because that is a normal thing to enter to win.

I am constantly entering contest for cameras, iPads, cookware, and whatever else is up for grabs in the blog world.

However, none of those things are even close to what I've won...

I commented on a post over on Perks of Being a JAP and didn't think another thing about it.

When I got to work this morning (on my breaks, of course) I started my rounds of the daily blogs I read. When I got to Perks of Being a JAP I realized I was the person she was announcing as the winner!

Let's cut to the chase, shall we? I have won.....

This is comment I left on Perks of Being a JAP that won it all for me!!
I called Ryan to tell him and he was all... I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU. We have laughed so hard this morning. Good thing we actually enjoy the Pepperoni Pizza Lean Pockets because that's what were eating for dinner every night for one whole entire year!!

Note: The final installment of OTDub (part 3) will be posted this afternoon!
